Is PDF redaction permanent?
Yes, SafeRedact performs true, permanent redaction. Unlike simple black boxes overlaid on text (which can be removed), our redaction completely removes the underlying text data from the PDF. The original content cannot be recovered.
Do my PDFs get uploaded to your servers?
Your PDF files stay in your browser. Only extracted text is sent AES-256 encrypted for AI detection — nothing is stored or retained. We never see your original documents.
What PDF versions are supported?
SafeRedact supports all standard PDF versions including PDF 1.0 through 2.0. This includes scanned PDFs (processed as images), PDFs with embedded fonts, and PDFs with multiple layers.
Can I redact scanned PDFs?
Yes. For scanned PDFs (which are essentially images), SafeRedact uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to detect text, then allows you to redact it. The redaction is applied directly to the image layer.
Is SafeRedact certified for regulatory compliance?
SafeRedact is not certified for HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, or other regulatory compliance. It is the user's sole responsibility to determine whether SafeRedact meets their regulatory requirements. Consult your compliance officer before using any tool for regulated data.
