1. Service Description
SafeRedact is a document redaction tool that uses artificial intelligence to detect and permanently remove sensitive information from documents. The Service processes documents in your browser, identifies potentially sensitive information via AI detection, and generates redacted versions with that information permanently destroyed.
2. Acceptable Use
You agree to use SafeRedact only for lawful purposes. You are responsible for:
- Ensuring you have the right to process any documents you submit
- Reviewing all AI-detected redactions before downloading
- Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Maintaining appropriate backups of your original documents
3. Prohibited Uses
You may not use SafeRedact to:
- Process regulated data including Protected Health Information (PHI) subject to HIPAA, financial records subject to GLBA, student records subject to FERPA, or other data governed by industry-specific regulations — unless you have verified compliance with your organization's requirements and obtained any necessary agreements
- Upload documents containing illegal content
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the underlying AI models
- Use the Service to facilitate fraud, identity theft, or other illegal activities
- Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
4. Fair Use Policy
SafeRedact Pro plans include unlimited document processing subject to this Fair Use Policy. We define fair use as approximately 5,000 pages per month for individual users and small teams.
Usage significantly exceeding this threshold may indicate automated or programmatic access, resale or redistribution of services, or shared account credentials across organizations. We reserve the right to contact users to discuss Enterprise licensing, temporarily suspend accounts pending review, or terminate accounts engaged in systematic abuse.
If your legitimate business needs exceed fair use limits, contact us at support@saferedact.app for Enterprise pricing.
5. Regulatory Compliance Disclaimer
SafeRedact is not certified for compliance with HIPAA, GLBA, FERPA, or other industry-specific data protection regulations.
If you operate in a regulated industry — including healthcare, financial services, education, or government — you are solely responsible for determining whether your use of this Service complies with applicable laws, obtaining any required agreements, ensuring your organization's policies permit use of browser-based document processing, and implementing additional safeguards your regulations may require.
SafeRedact does not hold SOC 2, HIPAA, or other regulatory certifications directly. Infrastructure partners (Anthropic, Vercel, Supabase) maintain SOC 2 Type II certification. For questions, contact sales@saferedact.app.
6. Data Processing
When you use SafeRedact:
- Your document is processed in your browser — the complete file is never uploaded to our servers
- Extracted text is sent to our AI detection API over TLS 1.3 with no-log headers for PII classification
- The AI provider (Anthropic) does not store or retain the text, and does not use it for training
- Detection results are returned to your browser, where redaction is applied locally
- We store only account metadata and job audit records (file names, detection counts) — never document content
See our Privacy Policy for complete details on data handling.
7. Redaction Accuracy
While SafeRedact uses advanced AI to detect sensitive information, no automated system is 100% accurate. You are responsible for reviewing all detected items before applying redactions, adding manual redactions for any items the AI may have missed, and verifying the final redacted document meets your requirements.
We provide tools for you to review, adjust, add, and remove redaction regions before generating your final document.
8. Permanent Redaction
Redactions applied by SafeRedact are permanent and irreversible. The original content beneath redacted areas is destroyed, not merely hidden. Once you download a redacted document, the redacted information cannot be recovered by any means, including copy/paste, image editing software, PDF text extraction, or any other technical method.
Always retain a copy of your original document before redacting.
9. Account & Billing
Free tier users may process a limited number of documents. Paid subscriptions provide additional features and unlimited processing. Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of your billing period.
10. Enterprise Engagements
SafeRedact Enterprise is offered under separate written agreements which take precedence over these Terms of Service.
Where a separate enterprise agreement exists between you (or your organization) and Cambridge Holdings, LLC — including a Data Processing Agreement (DPA), Statement of Work (SOW), or enterprise license agreement — the terms of that agreement govern your use of the Enterprise product and take precedence over these Terms of Service to the extent of any conflict.
These Terms of Service apply to all use of the consumer self-serve product at saferedact.app/app, free tier and individual paid subscriptions (Day Pass, Monthly, Annual), and enterprise pilot accounts unless a separate agreement is in place.
For enterprise pricing and agreements, contact sales@saferedact.app or visit saferedact.app/enterprise/contact.
11. Intellectual Property
You retain all rights to your documents. We claim no ownership of content you upload or redacted documents you generate. The SafeRedact service, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Cambridge Holdings, LLC.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
SafeRedact is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that all sensitive information will be detected, or that redacted documents will meet specific legal or regulatory requirements.
You use the Service at your own risk and are solely responsible for verifying redaction accuracy.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cambridge Holdings, LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Cambridge Holdings, LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any applicable laws or regulations, or content you upload to the Service.
15. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may stop using the Service at any time.
17. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in Cook County, Illinois.
